Daniel Defoe’s The Storm is a collection of observations and letters concerning the Great Storm of 1703. This Companion map shows the areas affected by the storm, as described in the the book.

The storm resulted in the loss of thousands of lives, including some 1,000 seamen aboard naval ships on the Goodwin Sands. Severe flooding occurred along the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary, ultimately leaving a number of boats stranded, while waves in the English Channel caused the destruction of the first Eddystone Lighthouse.
